Marco Rubio, the U.S. Secretary of State, during his visit to Uzbekistan, emphasized the necessity of ending the war between Ukraine and Russia, telling reporters that the two countries must focus on resolving this conflict. These remarks were made on October 19, while Rubio was meeting with senior officials from the C5+1 group of countries.
Possible Negotiations Among Global Leaders
In response to questions about the possibility of a meeting between Donald Trump, the President of the United States, Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, and Xi Jinping, the leader of China, to negotiate an end to the four-year conflict in Ukraine, he said: "There have been discussions about a meeting. I don’t know if this has been finalized or not, but the President has clearly stated that he is willing to end the war in Ukraine and Russia."

Rubio arrived in Samarkand last night to meet with officials from Muslim-majority countries following the collapse of the Soviet Union, including Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan. Last November, Trump hosted the leaders of this group at the White House.
Concerns About Escalation of War
Rubio also referred to the negative consequences of the war, stating: "We see nothing good coming from this war. It has many negative consequences, including the real risk of escalation and spreading this situation to other countries due to unsuccessful sabotage attacks, or because of the use of drones that have been damaged in electronic warfare and enter neighboring countries."
The United States is working to broker a peace agreement to end the war in Ukraine. Trump has also signed an agreement for importing diesel fuel from Russia and lifted some sanctions against Moscow, which he claims should keep the Kremlin at the negotiating table.
These moves have faced criticism from Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine. Meanwhile, a recent Russian airstrike in Ukraine has killed a woman in Kyiv and damaged a metro station, as well as destroyed a 25-story residential building.
