The senior military commander of the United States, Admiral Brad Cooper, who is in charge of the United States Central Command (CENTCOM), met with President Donald Trump at the White House on Thursday. This meeting was held in person and was rare, during which Cooper discussed military options for resuming operations against Iran.
Review of Military Options Against Iran
According to received information, CENTCOM had previously presented plans to the White House for resuming and intensifying U.S. military attacks against Iran. However, after the meeting of officials, it is still unclear whether Trump has decided to resume the war or not. Trump and other officials in his administration have stated that they do not intend to initiate new attacks against Iran before the midterm elections on November 3.

Political Concerns Regarding War
Public dissatisfaction with the war has become a sensitive issue for Republicans, who are seeking to maintain control of Congress ahead of the elections. Admiral Cooper has also provided classified military options to congressional representatives. Senator Chris Murphy from Connecticut described this plan as "insane" at an event at the Middle East Institute, adding that this action could lead to devastating escalation and potentially undermine our commitments to the rule of law.
Trump's Threats and Iran's Response
Throughout the summer, Trump repeatedly threatened that if Iranian leaders did not return to negotiations, he would authorize new military attacks against the country's civilian infrastructure. Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament and chief negotiator of the war, stated on Thursday on platform X that Iran's conditions have been communicated to intermediaries repeatedly and clearly.
Admiral Cooper's spokesperson declined to comment on his plans. These developments come as the international community remains concerned about the security situation in the Middle East and the potential consequences of escalating tensions in the region.
