Muscat Municipality today (date) signed an agreement with AZ Engineers and partners for the implementation of the Al Salam Street upgrade project. This action is part of the municipality's efforts to develop the road system and infrastructure of the Muscat governorate to provide sustainable traffic solutions and reduce critical traffic points.
Objectives of the Al Salam Street Upgrade Project
The Al Salam Street upgrade project addresses two important high-traffic locations on this street. The main goal of this project is to develop intersections and increase their capacity to reduce stop times and traffic, and improve the efficiency and safety of traffic flow in the area.
Intersection Development and Tunnel Construction
The first location includes the upgrade of the industrial square intersection at the junction of Al Salam Street and Al Omr Street. Here, a tunnel will be constructed along Al Salam Street that allows traffic flow to continue smoothly in both directions without stopping. This tunnel will include two lanes in each direction, with additional space allocated for a third lane in the future to align road capacity with future needs.
The development of this location also includes the construction of two bridges with two lanes along with the necessary entry and exit points and the upgrade of the roads connected to the intersection. These measures will help organize vehicle movement and facilitate transit between surrounding roads.
Improvement of Other Intersections
The second location includes the upgrade of the traffic light intersection between Al Salam Street and Khair Street. In this project, a tunnel will also be constructed along Al Salam Street with two lanes in each direction and additional space for a third lane. The construction of two-lane bridges along with uninterrupted turning lanes is also included in this project.
The Al Salam Street upgrade project is designed to meet the growing traffic needs and urban development in the Muscat governorate. With the implementation of this project, it is expected that travel time will decrease and traffic safety and efficiency in these areas will improve.
