Oman officially launched the activities of this event by hosting Oman Climate Week 2026 at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre (OCEC). This event is part of the Sultanate of Oman's efforts to enhance national and international cooperation on climate action, support innovation and practical solutions, and exchange knowledge and experience.
International Participation and Diverse Programs
The Climate Week is held under the patronage of Sheikh Al-Fadl bin Mohammed Al-Harthy, Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers of Oman, and includes extensive international and regional participation. This event brings together decision-makers, experts, specialists, and representatives from government entities, the private sector, international organizations, universities, and civil society. More than 50 countries are participating in this event, which will feature diverse programs until September 16.

Climate Challenges and Oman's Approach
Dr. Abdullah Ali Al-Amri, President of the Environment Authority of Oman, stated in his opening speech that climate challenges are no longer just an environmental issue but are now an essential part of decisions related to energy, water, food, investment, and economic competition. He emphasized that Oman is aiming for zero carbon emissions by 2050 and is pursuing this path considering national priorities and ensuring energy security and economic competitiveness.
Oman is actively turning climate opportunities into practical pathways, including through carbon projects, nature-based solutions, and developing waste management systems to harness their economic and environmental values.
Additionally, Jasem Mohammed Al-Badawi, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, in a video message highlighted the importance of climate change as an economic and developmental challenge and stressed the need for collective responses and effective regional and international cooperation.
Mohter Babayev, President of COP29, also emphasized the importance of translating climate agreements and commitments into tangible results and noted the need for a fair and orderly transition in this regard. He also referred to Oman's role in international climate discussions.
