The Oman Human Rights Commission and the Oman General Federation of Trade Unions recently signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC). This agreement was signed to establish an institutional framework for coordination and integration between the two parties and to strengthen cooperative relations in areas of mutual interest. The main goal of this agreement is to protect and promote human rights, improve the work environment, and safeguard workers' rights in the Sultanate of Oman.

Signing of the Agreement by Omani Officials

This agreement was signed on behalf of the Oman Human Rights Commission by Dr. Rashid Hamad Al-Balushi, the Chairman of the Commission, and on behalf of the Oman General Federation of Trade Unions by Nabhan Ahmed Al-Batashi, the Chairman of the Federation's Board. This agreement is the result of the national role of the Oman Human Rights Commission in protecting the rights and freedoms guaranteed by the constitution and international covenants to which the Sultanate of Oman has acceded.

Goals and Content of the Agreement

The cooperation agreement also includes collaboration in preparing reports and specialized studies, reviewing national laws related to the labor sector, and providing suggestions and recommendations for their development in line with the constitution, international human rights standards, and international labor standards. Additionally, this agreement addresses increasing field coordination and information exchange regarding monitoring observations and complaints related to workers' rights in the private sector workplace and carries out necessary actions in this regard according to the legal duties and competencies of each party.

This agreement not only helps improve working conditions and protect workers' rights but also represents an important step towards achieving the goals and programs of the Oman General Federation of Trade Unions. This organization operates with the aim of safeguarding workers' interests and representing them in local, regional, and international forums.

The aforementioned agreement can serve as a roadmap for future collaborations in the fields of human rights and labor in Oman and demonstrates the commitment of both entities to enhance the level of human rights and working conditions in the country. These collaborations can be seen as an example of Oman's ongoing efforts to protect citizens' rights and improve their quality of life.
