Oman participated on Tuesday in the 37th meeting of the Petrochemical Cooperation Committee of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) held in the capital of Bahrain, Manama. This meeting provided an opportunity for GCC member countries to discuss the challenges and opportunities in the energy sector.

Oman's Leadership in the Meeting

The Omani delegation at this conference was led by Engineer Salem Nasser Al Aufi, the Minister of Energy and Minerals, representing the country. Engineer Al Aufi emphasized the importance of international cooperation in the energy sector and stressed the necessity of exchanging experiences and modern technologies among member countries.

Energy Security and Supply Diversification

Jassim Mohammed Al Budawi, the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, addressed the topic of energy security at this meeting, stating that energy security is no longer limited to production capacity but also includes ensuring delivery and continuity of supply. He explained that GCC member countries are working on diversifying energy export routes and ensuring the continuity of supply chains, which helps strengthen the resilience of the Gulf energy system and its readiness to face rapid changes.

Additionally, the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council highlighted the importance of strategic planning in facing global challenges and emphasized the need to enhance bilateral and multilateral cooperation in the energy sector. Such collaborations can assist member countries in adapting to climate changes and the growing global demand.

Implications of Energy Cooperation

Closer cooperation in the energy sector can lead to increased investments and the development of energy infrastructure in member countries. Especially in light of climate changes and the rising need for clean and sustainable energy, Gulf countries must move towards utilizing modern technologies and renewable energy sources.

At the end of this meeting, committee members emphasized the necessity of continuing cooperation and information exchange in the energy sector and believed that further interactions could strengthen energy security and economic stability in the region.
