Oman's Active Role in Regional Diplomacy
In recent months, Oman has become one of the active parties in diplomatic consultations related to the Iran-U.S. crisis. Badr al-Busaidi, on August 21, discussed regional developments, facilitating the resumption of talks and negotiations, as well as the shipping situation in the Strait of Hormuz, in a phone call with Araqchi. The two ministers also met on September 26 on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, discussing diplomatic efforts to reduce regional disputes and ensure the security of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
Currently, diplomatic efforts to end the Iran-U.S. war are also continuing through mediation by Qatar and Pakistan. According to reports, indirect talks between Tehran and Washington, mediated by Qatar, ended after several days of consultations in Doha without reaching a definitive outcome, but contacts and exchanges of proposals between the parties continue.
The main focus of the proposals discussed in these consultations includes ending the blockade of Iranian ports, reopening the Strait of Hormuz, and reducing restrictions related to oil sales and sanctions. Tehran also emphasizes that certain conditions and demands must be addressed before entering nuclear negotiations.
In such circumstances, the recent contact between Araqchi and al-Busaidi can be seen as part of the ongoing regional consultations to prevent the escalation of the crisis and find a diplomatic way to establish stability in the region.
