The military coalition led by Saudi Arabia has recently targeted several Houthi missile facilities. This operation came in response to the recent attack by this group on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, which raised security concerns in the Saudi capital.

Recent Developments and Houthi Attacks

Following the occurrence of massive explosions in Riyadh and warnings from officials to residents about aerial threats, the Saudi coalition announced that it had destroyed four missile launchers, one missile storage site, and tunnels used by the Houthis. This group, which controls a significant portion of Yemen, has recently begun a wave of attacks on King Khalid International Airport. In one of these attacks that occurred this month, 13 people lost their lives and over 300 were injured.

Consequences and International Reactions

After these attacks, Riyadh Airport was reopened and flights resumed. However, the Houthis once again warned that this airport remains a "military target." Yahya Saree, the military spokesperson for the Houthis, stated that they attacked this airport with a ballistic missile and accurately hit the target. Additionally, this group has continued its attacks on oil pumping stations using drones.

These attacks clearly indicate the escalating tensions in the region and the violation of several years of ceasefire agreements that ended last summer. In this context, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, during a meeting with Mohammed bin Salman, the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, responded positively to the country's request to maintain the Patriot air defense system in Saudi Arabia. Greece currently has one battery of this system deployed in Yanbu, one of the oil export centers on the Red Sea coast.

In recent days, the Saudi coalition has announced that air defense systems intercepted and destroyed at least 10 ballistic missiles that were fired toward Riyadh. Residents of the Khamis Mushait area have also expressed significant concern over the intensity of the explosions and ground shaking, with some reporting injuries from falling debris.

Given the scale of these attacks and their consequences, it seems that tensions in this region have significantly increased, and their repercussions will soon impact international relations and regional security.
