Faisal bin Farhan, the Saudi Foreign Minister, delivered a speech at the eighty-first session of the United Nations General Assembly, in which he referred to the importance of the security of the Persian Gulf as an inseparable part of regional and global security. He also emphasized that the revival of global supply chains is a shared responsibility among all countries in the region.

Emphasis on Non-Dominance

Bin Farhan mentioned in his speech that efforts to establish security in the region cannot be based on dominance or the imposition of influence. While stating that Saudi Arabia and other countries in the region have been subjected to ruthless aggressions, he did not mention Iran's defensive actions targeting U.S. military facilities. This claim was made while Iran has acted as an independent country in defense of its sovereignty.

The Necessity of Being Free of Weapons of Mass Destruction

The Saudi Foreign Minister also stressed the importance of ensuring security and stability in the region and called for the region to be free of weapons of mass destruction. He emphasized the need for peaceful nuclear facilities to be under international supervision and considered the continued illegal expansion of Israeli settlements a serious violation of international law. Bin Farhan also rejected any attempts for the forced displacement of Palestinians and declared the implementation of the two-state solution as the only path to sustainable peace.

In another part of his speech, the Saudi Foreign Minister referred to the Yemen crisis and emphasized the necessity of stability in this country and the protection of civilians. He called on the international community to condemn the actions of the Houthis in the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait but refrained from mentioning Saudi aggressions in this country.

Faisal bin Farhan also emphasized that the resolution of the Sudan crisis should rely on internal processes to strengthen the security and stability of the people of this country. He highlighted the importance of ensuring freedom of navigation in all international waterways in light of threats against international shipping and called for the Strait of Hormuz to return to its operational status prior to the war.

In conclusion, the Saudi Foreign Minister welcomed efforts to reduce tensions in the region and particularly supported the actions of Qatar and Pakistan aimed at restoring stability. He also emphasized Saudi Arabia's support for the sovereignty and security of Iraq, stating that the territory of this country should not be used as a platform for attacks against neighboring countries.
