J.D. Vance, the Vice President of the United States, has directly participated in indirect negotiations with Iran over the past two weeks. The aim of these negotiations is to establish a new ceasefire and resume nuclear talks. Vance's action reflects his serious determination to pull Washington out of a crisis that he believes is the main reason for the Republican Party's electoral failures this week.
Secret Talks with Regional Officials
According to information from reliable sources, President Donald Trump has also allowed diplomatic negotiations and is exploring the possibility of reaching an agreement. Trump told reporters, "We are talking to them." However, informed sources have warned that if Trump decides to change course and authorize military actions again, U.S. forces will be fully prepared to strike.

Ongoing Efforts by Vance for Diplomacy
Behind closed doors, Vance is in daily discussions with Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, the Prime Minister of Qatar, and General Asim Munir, the Chief of Army Staff of Pakistan, as well as other intermediaries. Additionally, Steve Witkoff, the White House Special Representative, and Jared Kushner, the President's advisor and son-in-law, are also active in this diplomatic effort. Informed sources have revealed that Vance, along with Qatari and Pakistani intermediaries, is exploring the arrangement of a technical meeting at the expert level with American and Iranian representatives, although this meeting has not yet materialized.
The Office of the Vice President of the United States has declined to comment on the ongoing negotiations. Vance, seen as a skeptical voice among Trump’s close associates before the war began in late February, has consistently emphasized the need for a diplomatic resolution. He previously led the U.S. negotiating team at the April meeting in Islamabad and played a key role in securing the bilateral memorandum of understanding last June.
While participants in the ongoing mediation report progress, they have described the overall process as very slow. Diplomacy continued on Friday morning, while Trump discussed with Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar, the efforts of Doha to bridge the existing gaps between Washington and Tehran. In an official statement, Sheikh Tamim emphasized the necessity of continuing dialogue and pursuing diplomatic avenues to resolve disputes, calling for the prevention of escalating tensions and ensuring freedom of maritime navigation and energy security.
