Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister of the UAE, met on Tuesday in Riyadh with Mohammed bin Salman, the Saudi Crown Prince, and Khalid bin Salman, the Minister of Defense of the country. This meeting is considered the first high-level session between the two countries following the deep tensions arising from the Yemen crisis last year.
Review of Bilateral Relations
According to reports, during this meeting, Sheikh Mansour and the Saudi Crown Prince discussed the "brotherly relations between the two countries" and "recent developments in the region." This meeting clearly demonstrates the efforts of both countries to improve relations and reduce tensions that peaked last year.
Separate Meetings and Willingness to Cooperate
Sheikh Mansour also met separately with Khalid bin Salman. In this meeting, the two sides discussed "ways to further develop these relations in a manner that serves the common interests of both countries." These meetings reflect the strong will of both countries to strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation in various fields.
In late July, Sheikh Mansour and Khalid bin Salman were photographed embracing each other, a picture released by the head of the Saudi General Entertainment Authority, Turki Al Sheikh. This image clearly represents broader efforts by senior Saudi and Emirati officials to emphasize relations between the two countries after months of tensions.
Given the recent developments in the region and the efforts of both countries to strengthen cooperation, more meetings are expected to take place in the near future between the officials of the two countries. These meetings could help reduce tensions and create greater stability in the Gulf, as well as strengthen economic and political relations between the two countries.
