The Sultanate of Oman held a discussion session at the Intercity Al Khuwair Hotel to examine the role of the transport and logistics sector in strengthening the national economy. This session, attended by His Excellency Engineer Said bin Hamoud Al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, addressed the importance of Oman's ports in global developments and the country's future strategies.

New Logistics Opportunities

The Minister of Transport of Oman stated at this meeting that global economic changes and developments in supply chains have created vast opportunities to enhance the role of Oman's ports and its logistics services. Given the existing infrastructure and favorable geographical location, Oman can become an important center for commercial and logistical activities.

His Excellency Al Maawali also referred to the major changes occurring in global logistics and explained that countries are moving towards establishing bilateral and regional trade agreements. These changes have emerged especially after the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to shorter supply chains and increased connections with regional markets.

Port Development and Future Strategies

The Minister of Transport of Oman pointed to the development and improvement of port and road infrastructure in the country, stating that Oman has made significant progress in road quality on a global scale in recent years. Salalah Port, as one of the high-efficiency ports, is considered one of Oman's logistical advantages.

He also announced a significant increase in the volume of goods transportation, stating that the number of active trucks in Oman has reached about 100,000 trucks monthly. This increase in transportation volume is particularly related to Omani transport companies and reflects the country's logistical advancements.

According to His Excellency Al Maawali, Oman is seeking to become a major center for commercial and logistical activities, and new collaborations with international companies are being formed in this regard. These collaborations include signing memorandums of understanding with global companies and planning for the development of new ports.

Finally, the Minister of Transport of Oman announced that the completion of the communication project between Oman and the United Arab Emirates in 2027 will create a fundamental transformation in the transport and logistics services of this country. This project is considered a key step towards increasing efficiency and facilitating the transportation of goods in the region.
