History of Syria-Saudi Arabia Relations
This visit follows previous efforts to reduce regional tensions and strengthen cooperation between Syria and Saudi Arabia. Al-Shara'a and the Saudi Crown Prince last met on April 21 in Jeddah and also discussed efforts to reduce regional tensions over the phone in late July. These developments reflect the efforts of both countries to come closer together during the critical period in the Middle East and could have positive effects on regional stability.
Currently, Saudi Arabia faces security challenges due to Houthi attacks that continuously target the airports and infrastructure of the country. These attacks have increased Saudi security concerns and simultaneously impact its relations with its neighbors. In this context, Al-Shara'a's visit to Saudi Arabia can be seen as a positive sign towards strengthening security and political cooperation between the two countries.
