The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), led by Jasem Al-Budaiwi, the Secretary-General of the Council, condemned the recent Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia on Sunday. Al-Budaiwi described these attacks as deliberate and criminal actions that endanger civilian lives, destroy infrastructure, and threaten the security and stability of the region.

GCC Ministerial Council Meeting

This meeting was held in Manama, the capital of Bahrain, chaired by Bahrain's Foreign Minister, Dr. Abdullatif Al-Zayani, and attended by the foreign ministers of the GCC member states, including Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, the Foreign Minister of Kuwait. The GCC Secretary-General emphasized that the repeated Houthi attacks require effective international action to stop these attacks, hold the perpetrators accountable, and prevent further threats to the security and stability of the region. He also expressed condolences to the families of the victims of these attacks and wished a speedy recovery for the injured.

Condemnation of Iranian Attacks on Member States

The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council also referred to the repeated Iranian attacks on member states, stating that these actions violate their sovereignty and territorial integrity and pose a direct threat to their security and stability. He criticized what he described as Iran's dangerous behaviors regarding maritime navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and warned against attempts to use this strategic waterway as a tool for pressure and intimidation. Such actions, he said, pose serious risks to international trade and global energy supply.

Al-Budaiwi called on Iran to adhere to international laws and the United Nations Charter and to fully implement UN Security Council Resolution 2817, ensuring freedom of navigation and safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz without any restrictions or threats. He urged the international community, especially the Security Council, to take a firm stance to protect regional stability and secure international maritime routes against actions that threaten regional and global peace and security.

The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council also announced that the General Secretariat of the Council has been following up on these initiatives with member states through ministerial and technical committee meetings, overseeing implementation timelines, and identifying remaining steps to fulfill the leaders' directives. He praised the cooperation of member states and the participation of their representatives in committees and working groups monitoring these initiatives. Furthermore, Al-Budaiwi referred to international collaborations, stating that the Gulf Cooperation Council remains a reliable international partner and continues to strengthen regional and global partnerships to serve the interests of member states and expand the international presence of this bloc.
