The U.S. Department of Justice announced on Monday the start of the largest citizenship revocation initiative in the contemporary history of the country, stating that it is taking action to revoke the American citizenship of 40 individuals.

Serious Charges Against the Individuals Involved

The affected individuals are currently facing citizenship revocation proceedings in various federal courts across the United States. The charges against them include acting as representatives of a foreign government, committing involuntary manslaughter, and severe sadism towards individuals with special needs.

Emphasis on Integrity in the Naturalization Process

Todd Blanche, the U.S. Attorney General, stated: "Today's announcement is the largest citizenship revocation effort in contemporary history." He also noted that existing regulations in U.S. immigration and nationality law allow for the formal revocation of a naturalized citizen's citizenship if it was obtained illegally or through the intentional concealment of material facts or the intentional distortion of information.

Brett A. Schumitt, Deputy Attorney General who leads the civil division of the Department of Justice, emphasized the government's position, stating: "Each of these individuals has lied in some way during the process of obtaining American citizenship." He also added: "This administration is pursuing the largest citizenship revocation effort in the history of the department to restore trust and integrity to American citizenship. Our message is clear: the United States will not tolerate any deception in the naturalization process."

At the same time, the government is pursuing the revocation of the citizenship of Jinchao Wei, a former U.S. Navy sailor who had previously been convicted on espionage-related charges.

The Department of Justice confirmed that citizenship revocation proceedings are being conducted in parallel, and these individuals are part of a broader administrative initiative targeting 40 naturalized citizens related to allegations of obtaining citizenship through fraudulent means, active concealment, or distortion of relevant information.
