The Sultanate of Oman commemorates World Prosthetics and Orthotics Day in line with global participation. This event emphasizes the importance of specialized services in enhancing the mobility of individuals with disabilities, supporting their independence, and promoting their integration into society.

Specialized Services at Khawla Hospital

In this regard, the Prosthetics and Orthotics Department at Khawla Hospital continues to provide specialized and rehabilitation services to various age groups. These services include assessment, design, production, and installation of prosthetic limbs and orthotic devices that help improve the mobility and self-sufficiency of individuals.

Zakia Said Al-Noubi, head of the Prosthetics and Orthotics Department at Khawla Hospital, announced that the department registered 10,828 visits in 2024 and distributed 5,326 devices. Additionally, in 2025, the number of visits reached 11,074 and the number of distributed devices reached 5,534.

Comprehensive Approach to Service Delivery

Zakia Al-Noubi emphasized the importance of providing integrated specialized services that consider the needs of each individual. These services begin with assessing the condition and identifying needs, and include the selection, production, and installation of prosthetic limbs or orthotic devices, as well as follow-up and necessary adjustments to ensure the functionality and suitability of the devices.

This department not only provides prosthetic limbs and orthotic devices but also assists individuals in various stages of rehabilitation to enhance their mobility and self-reliance. This approach refers to the integration of technical expertise with human care in response to the needs of patients.

In the field of orthotics, this department offers a variety of services, including medical insoles, ankle and lower limb braces, knee and ankle splints, spinal braces, and upper dynamic devices. It also produces ready-made and customized devices according to the needs of each patient.

Atif Mohammed Al-Shizani, one of the beneficiaries of this department's services, spoke about his experience following a motorcycle accident in 2024 and emphasized that receiving a prosthetic limb and rehabilitation services helped him return to his daily life.

These efforts aim to enhance specialized health and rehabilitation services and improve the care system for individuals in need of prosthetics and orthotics, enabling them to actively participate in society.
