The 'I Want to Learn' Association operates with the goal of providing educational services to children suffering from cancer, chronic illnesses, and other conditions requiring long-term hospitalization. This humanitarian initiative helps young patients continue their education and maintain a sense of normalcy alongside their rigorous treatment programs by offering educational classes and remote learning.
Ensuring the Right to Education for Sick Children
This association collaborates with the Ministry of Health and volunteer teachers from the Ministry of Education. The joint efforts of these institutions enable hospitalized children to access approved curricula and ensure their educational rights are preserved alongside their physical and mental health.
Dr. Ali Al-Ansari, the chairman of the board of this association, emphasized that the mission of this organization is based on the principle that every child has the right to education, regardless of health conditions. The association's slogan, "I Learn Despite My Illness," reflects their commitment to continuing education during treatment.
Expanding Activities and Educational Programs
This association offers flexible educational programs for grades one through twelve, conducted in hospital classrooms, patient rooms, or online platforms. Educational programs are designed based on each child's medical conditions and academic abilities to facilitate their return to the mainstream educational system.
Al-Ansari also announced that this association operates five educational centers, including classes at NBK Children's Hospital, Al-Razi Hospital, and Al-Adan Hospital. In the 2025-2026 academic year, 54 students benefited from the services of this association, and currently, 51 students are registered for the 2026-2027 academic year.
This association also provides psychological and social support to reduce isolation and assist children in coping with treatment. Dr. Maha Bourisly, a pediatric consultant at NBK Children's Hospital and the founder of this initiative, expressed hope that the experience of hospital classes would evolve into a formal educational system that, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, includes facilitating examinations and educational recognition.
