The Sultanate of Oman, representing the Ministry of Health, participated today in the proceedings of the seventy-third session of the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Committee for the Eastern Mediterranean (RC73) held in Cairo.
Session Focus and Objectives
This session is hosted by the Arab Republic of Egypt in Cairo and includes participation from health leaders and decision-makers from the region's countries. The session is titled "Together for a Healthier Future: Action, Access, Equity" and provides an opportunity to gather and reflect on common public health challenges and align efforts towards creating a healthier future for all.
In a statement, Dr. Hilal Ali Al-Sabri, Minister of Health and Vice President of the WHO Regional Committee, emphasized the importance of ongoing investment in resilient health systems. These systems should be based on primary health care and universal health coverage to ensure equitable services and access, especially for vulnerable populations and those affected by crises.
Emphasis on International Cooperation and Digital Developments
Dr. Al-Sabri added that the Sultanate of Oman continues to translate these priorities into tangible national action. In the area of health security and prevention, Oman has maintained a high coverage of polio vaccination and has emphasized surveillance, preparedness, and response systems. Oman is also advancing in its efforts to combat antimicrobial resistance (AMR) based on commitments made in the Muscat Ministerial Declaration in 2022.
The Minister of Health emphasized that digital developments, data, and artificial intelligence provide a strategic opportunity to advance health systems in the region. He stressed the need to develop transparent governance frameworks, enhance synergies, and ensure the responsible and reliable use of technology to improve the quality of health services and support evidence-based decision-making.
In concluding his remarks, Dr. Hilal Al-Sabri reaffirmed the Sultanate of Oman's support for the efforts of the regional office and its commitment to ongoing collaboration with the World Health Organization and member states. These collaborations aim to translate the priorities outlined in the report into sustainable and positive outcomes that impact the health of people across the region.
