Samit Machhar, an Indian pilot, has been recognized as a hero for saving the lives of 174 passengers on the FlyDubai flight heading to Israel. In this incident, Machhar was able to prevent an aviation disaster with unparalleled courage and determination, establishing himself as a hero in the history of aviation.

The Background of Samit Machhar's Journey into Aviation

Machhar's life as a pilot began when he was 19 years old, at which time he decided to leave the family business in the textile industry. After studying textile engineering and then management, he was introduced to the world of flight at an aviation seminar. Machhar stated, "It was here that my love for aviation truly took hold." After this experience, he seriously pursued aviation.

Heroic Performance in Critical Conditions

The incident occurred when Captain Machhar was flying towards Israel and suddenly his colleague, the co-pilot, attacked him. This attack happened mid-flight while 174 passengers were on board. Despite serious injuries, Machhar managed to open the cockpit door in a critical situation, allowing passengers and crew to subdue the co-pilot. Two other pilots who were present as passengers also assisted in safely landing the aircraft.

Machhar is currently receiving treatment in a hospital in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, and is recovering. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised his bravery, stating, "Captain Samit Machhar is a hero." Additionally, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described him as "a true hero."

Machhar, who has nearly 9,750 flight hours over the past 15 years and is recognized as an experienced pilot, stated in an interview, "Aviation was never part of my childhood dreams." He pointed out that his personal life is separate from aviation and he wishes to return to his normal life after flying.

In another interview, he emphasized, "When I step out of the cockpit or the plane, I don’t want anyone to know that I am a pilot." This reflects his professional and ethical approach to his job. Machhar ultimately reiterated his commitment to flight safety by stating, "As long as the passengers exit the aircraft safely, delays are not a problem for me."
