Yemeni government forces announced on Sunday that they have attacked Houthi targets across the country, which has led to an escalation of conflicts in a country considered one of the poorest in the world. These attacks come as Yemen has once again descended into civil war, with clashes intensifying between Iran-backed Houthis and the Yemeni government, which is supported by Saudi Arabia.

Details of the Attacks

The Yemeni armed forces began their attacks on Houthi positions in the capital, Sana'a, as well as in the provinces of Saada and Taiz, which are considered the main strongholds of this group. Colonel Majid Al-Nazili, a military spokesperson, stated that these attacks aim to reduce the military power of the Houthis and regain areas under their control.

Yemen has once again descended into civil war since July, after the Houthis took control of most areas in northwestern Yemen, including Sana'a. The Yemeni government, based in the city of Aden, controls the southern and eastern parts of the country, although these areas are significantly less populated than those under Houthi control.

Humanitarian Consequences of the Conflicts

These attacks come as the Houthis announced a few hours earlier that they had attacked an oil facility near the capital of Saudi Arabia, releasing videos of fire and smoke. Meanwhile, the fires at the oil facilities have drawn significant media attention and somewhat reflect the intensity of the conflicts and tensions in the region.

Reports indicate that clashes in the Taiz province, one of the critical points of the war, have increased, and on Friday, several fighters from both sides were killed. The Houthis reported that 55 of their forces were killed, while Yemeni government sources reported the deaths of 26 of their forces.

Given the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Yemen, the World Food Programme has warned that three-quarters of the country's population are unable to meet their basic food needs. Recent conflicts and retaliatory attacks between the parties have severely impacted the humanitarian situation in the country and created new crises.
