Yemeni military forces experienced intense clashes with Houthi forces across the country on Wednesday, as officials report the worsening situation in the besieged city of Taiz.
Yemeni Air and Ground Operations
The Yemeni Air Force announced that on Wednesday, airstrikes were conducted against Houthi positions in Marib province, a resource-rich oil area in central Yemen that is divided between the government and this Iran-aligned group. Additionally, reports have emerged of ground operations and airstrikes against Houthis in Taiz province, in southwestern Yemen.

In recent days, the area surrounding the city of Taiz has witnessed intensified clashes, with the Washington Institute for the Study of War noting the severity of the fighting in the past 24 hours. These battles are primarily concentrated in the areas of Al-Dhabab, southwest of the city, and Al-Shiqab, southeast of it.
The Siege of Taiz and Its Consequences
Houthis completely besieged the city of Taiz earlier this month, putting the city, which has a population of about one million, at serious humanitarian risk. The Houthis' efforts to gain control over the city of Taiz aim to secure a key route into the city, and heavy clashes between fighters of this group and Yemeni government forces have occurred around Al-Dhabab in the southwestern outskirts of Taiz on the 12th and 13th of October.
As the humanitarian situation in this area has severely worsened and access to food and medicine has become critically limited, Yemeni officials have called for urgent assistance from the international community. These clashes not only endanger lives but also jeopardize the future of thousands in this besieged city.
