Efforts to Reduce Tensions in the Middle East
On Monday, senior officials from Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan met with Iranian officials in Tehran to work towards reducing tensions in the Middle East. This comes as the Houthis in Yemen have launched new attacks on Saudi Arabia, and Egypt has also confirmed its defensive support for the kingdom. Tensions between the United States and Iran have also escalated in recent weeks, with U.S. President Donald Trump stating last week that his country might attack Iran again.
In this context, last week, the foreign ministers of China and Djibouti met in Beijing and agreed that reducing tensions in the Middle East is key to addressing security challenges in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea.
Through these actions, China seeks to play a more constructive role in resolving regional crises, aiming to maintain stability and security in its surrounding areas. Given recent interactions and the visits of various representatives to Middle Eastern countries, it appears that China is striving to be recognized as an active mediator in the region.
