Political prisoners held in Building No. 2 of Jau Central Prison, Bahrain, continue their unlimited hunger strike for the fifth consecutive day. This widespread hunger strike includes Blocks 3, 4, 5, and 6 of the prison and has raised serious concerns about the health status of these prisoners.
Increase in the Number of Strikers
Worrying reports have emerged about approximately 25 prisoners collapsing due to this strike. Currently, the number of hunger strikers has reached 57, with 10 prisoners from Block No. 3 joining the action, increasing this number. The striking prisoners emphasize that their humanitarian and legitimate demands must be met as soon as possible.
Humanitarian Demands of the Prisoners
The prisoners' demands include holding congregational prayers, opening cell doors, allowing entry of books and medicine, increasing the duration of outdoor time for sunbathing, and establishing contact with their families. These demands are considered fundamental human rights of the prisoners, and ignoring them has led to this widespread hunger strike.
According to some sources, the prison management has ignored the health status of the prisoners and their legal demands, which has intensified concerns about the physical and mental well-being of these prisoners. The realities of this strike highlight the urgent need for attention and action regarding human rights in Bahrain.
Given the current situation, it is expected that international and human rights organizations will pay more attention to this issue and take actions to support political prisoners in Bahrain. This collective hunger strike is viewed as a protest action aimed at securing the human and legal rights of the prisoners and its consequences could impact the political and social atmosphere in Bahrain.
