Dhofar Governorate, Oman is experiencing significant growth in construction and development projects in the education sector. These projects are being implemented and monitored at a cost of over 19 million Omani Rials, aimed at increasing school capacity and addressing current and future educational needs.
Details of Educational Projects
Dr. Mizoun Bakheet Al-Shahri, Director General of the General Education Department of Dhofar Governorate, announced that the department continues to implement a wide range of projects across the governorate's provinces. The total number of students in this governorate has reached 70,686, including 34,904 male students and 35,782 female students. These students are distributed across 243 schools, which include 50 boys' schools, 22 girls' schools, and 97 mixed public schools.

Development of Educational Infrastructure
These projects are part of the Ministry of Education's efforts to develop the infrastructure of the educational system, enhance the readiness of school buildings, and improve the educational environment to meet the current and future needs of students and educational staff. The total value of these projects amounts to approximately 19.224 million Omani Rials, distributed among construction, development, adding facilities, renovation, and maintenance projects.
Dr. Mizoun noted that integrated school buildings are at the forefront of these projects, with a cost of about 13.161 million Omani Rials. This includes the construction of several modern schools with large capacities in various provinces of the governorate to serve high-demand areas and student growth.
He also added that the General Education Department is pursuing the implementation of 16 projects to add school buildings at a cost of over 3.229 million Omani Rials. These projects include the construction of new classrooms, teachers' lounges, laboratories, and service facilities, as well as preparing sports fields and undertaking corrective and maintenance work.
In the current academic year, the number of educational staff in public schools has reached 6,715, including 2,320 male teachers and 4,395 female teachers. Dr. Mizoun also announced the completion of the hiring, relocation, and distribution process of new hires to meet actual needs.
He emphasized the continuous follow-up of construction and development projects and educational programs, highlighting the need to direct efforts and resources based on educational priorities in the governorate.
