The specialized meeting titled "The Importance of Media and National Security" was held on Tuesday in Adailiya with the presence of experts and prominent officials. This meeting was organized by the Kuwait Journalists Association and the Kuwaiti Retired Officers Association at the Kuwait Social Association headquarters.

Media Responsibilities During Crises

During this meeting, Dr. Saleh Al-Mutairi, media and strategic advisor, emphasized the necessity of media credibility as one of the vital characteristics of media organizations, especially during national emergencies. He pointed out the difference between public awareness and trust, stating: "Audiences may be aware of an incident occurring but do not necessarily trust the reporting entity."

Al-Mutairi also warned that competition among social media platforms for breaking news has placed additional pressure on professional journalists, who must balance speed and accuracy, freedom and responsibility.

The Role of Scientific Research in Decision-Making

Dr. Yaqoub Al-Kandari, a professor at Kuwait University, criticized the limited impact of scientific research on government decision-making. He stated that Kuwait is lagging behind other Gulf countries in utilizing specialized research centers and incorporating scientific findings into policies, especially when facing national challenges.

Al-Kandari pointed to the lack of effective communication between research institutions and decision-makers and called for strengthening cooperation between these two groups. He emphasized that government decisions should be based on scientific evidence and credible data, and research presented at conferences and scientific gatherings should be appropriately considered.

Media Challenges and National Security

Dr. A'id Al-Mana'a, advisor to the Kuwait Journalists Association, stressed the need for a balance between the public's right to information and the protection of sensitive military details. He stated: "The dissemination of specific information during wartime can aid hostile forces" and emphasized the responsibility of media to maintain public morale and national solidarity.

Finally, Professor Saad bin Tuflah, former Minister of Information, highlighted the importance of having an official spokesperson capable of communicating accurately and effectively during emergencies. He said: "We need someone who can maintain their composure and inform the public during times of victory as well as in times of danger."
