Life in Gaza is severely impacted by the ongoing war and Israeli airstrikes. Heba Arafat, a resident of Gaza, faces difficult conditions in her apartment. She lives in the middle of a damaged building that has collapsed due to repeated Israeli bombings, putting it in a dangerous state.

The Dire Situation of Gaza Residents

Arafat lives with her six daughters and husband in her old apartment in the Al-Shati refugee camp. They had to return to this place because they had nowhere else to live. She says, "All our homes have been destroyed and we have nothing left." According to United Nations statistics, by October 2025, 84% of buildings in Gaza will be damaged or destroyed, and 2,000 buildings are at risk of collapse.

Fear and Despair in Gaza

Last week, 21 people, including 12 children, lost their lives in Gaza due to the collapse of a six-story building. Heba Arafat shares her fears: "We are afraid of the buildings collapsing. The danger has become greater than we thought." Gaza municipal officials are searching for dangerous buildings, but they know that people are forced to live in these buildings due to a lack of alternatives.

Many residents of Gaza have turned to living in damaged buildings due to the difficult conditions in refugee camps. Despite diseases like skin infections that have become common due to a lack of hygiene facilities in the camps, many prefer living in these buildings over staying in refugee camps. Even though Gaza's economic situation is severely deteriorating, many residents remain dependent on humanitarian aid.

Although the ceasefire process has stalled following a ceasefire announced under U.S. supervision, Israel continues its bombings and has restricted the entry of necessary equipment for reconstruction. Alongside this, residents of Gaza continue to grapple with the dangers of living in these buildings.
