Doha will host the ninth Global Investment Forum from October 25 to 27. This event aims to bring together political leaders, senior UN officials, business executives, and investors in response to increasing inequalities in global investment and concerns about economic development.
Forum Programs and Key Topics
This conference, organized by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in collaboration with Qatar, will be held at the Sheraton Conference Center under the theme "Investing in the Future" with more than 80 sessions and 400 speakers planned. Given the 6% increase in global foreign direct investment to $1.6 trillion by 2025, this event is taking place at a critical time. However, according to the UN's World Investment Report, over 80% of these flows are concentrated in just 20 economies.
Presence of High-Ranking Officials and Prominent International Figures
Four prime ministers, four deputy prime ministers, and nearly 50 ministers from various countries will participate in this forum. Confirmed attendees include Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, Samuel Matekane, Prime Minister of Lesotho, Abdulhamid Dbeibeh, Prime Minister of Libya, and Christian Ntsay, Prime Minister of Madagascar.
The forum will also host prominent international figures such as Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization, Sheila O'Neill, Secretary-General of the United Nations World Tourism Organization, and Doreen Bogdan-Martin, Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union. The forum's programs will focus on directing investment towards economies and industries in need, and for the first time, a section dedicated to artificial intelligence has been planned.
Discussions will also include investment in peace and post-conflict reconstruction, critical minerals, energy, climate financing, entrepreneurship, tourism, and the emerging space economy. Qatar Museums and Art Basel will also explore the economic potential of art and culture.
This year, the Global Investment Forum returns to Doha, where it last hosted this event in 2012. During that period, the UN's Sustainable Investment Framework was introduced, which has since influenced policymaking in over 150 countries.
Holding this forum in Doha emphasizes Qatar's importance in global investment discussions amid geopolitical uncertainty. UNCTAD also recognizes Qatar's role as a key investment hub in the Gulf and emphasizes cooperation and partnerships. Public sessions will be broadcast live, and the complete program will be available on the official forum website.
