The Ministry of Health of Oman, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and civil defense and ambulance organizations, launched an advanced specialized training program on response to chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive (CBRNE) incidents, as well as medical disinfection operations on Sunday.

Training Course Details

This training program will continue until October 20, 2026, and its opening ceremony was held under the presidency of Dr. Abdullah Hamoud Al-Harthy, Deputy Minister of Social Development for Persons with Disabilities. Over a full month, more than 40 doctors, consultants, and medical and health specialists from various fields and related institutions will participate in this course.

In addition, a specialized Training of Trainers (TOT) program will also be implemented to help about 20 participants become recognized as national trainers and to transfer the necessary knowledge and skills in the field of CBRNE incident response and medical disinfection.

Course Content and Objectives

This program will include theoretical and practical sessions that will examine safe and effective response mechanisms to hazardous materials incidents, risk assessment, contamination and exposure management, triage and medical evacuation, medical disinfection methods, and ways to protect patients and health workers.

International experts from the International Committee of the Red Cross will also be present in this course to share international experiences and best practices in CBRNE incident response and related risk management. This initiative will help strengthen national capacities and develop professional practices in this field.

On the sidelines of the opening ceremony of this program, an agreement was signed between Khoula Hospital and the International Committee of the Red Cross aimed at strengthening national capacities in the areas of preparedness and response to chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive incidents and enhancing the readiness of health forces to deal with these incidents based on best practices.
