In response to Russia's proposal for ensuring the security of the Persian Gulf, Iran emphasized that the security of this region should not depend on foreign countries. Ismail Baqaei, the spokesperson for Iran's Foreign Ministry, elaborated on the Islamic Republic's views on this matter during a press conference today with domestic and foreign journalists.

Iran's Position on America's Breach of Commitment

The spokesperson for Iran's Foreign Ministry regarding the continuation of negotiations with the U.S., despite its breaches of commitment, said: "We insist on nothing but the national interests of Iran." He also added that in order to secure national interests, diplomacy and defense are equally important and emphasized that no blow will go unanswered.

Status of Relations with Pakistan and the Gulf Cooperation Council

Continuing, Baqaei referred to the status of the trade border between Iran and Pakistan and stated that exports continue, but imports from Pakistan have been halted. He also reacted to the final statement of the Gulf Cooperation Council ministers against Iran and called for the officials of these countries to reflect on their statements.

The spokesperson for Iran's Foreign Ministry clarified: "Iran behaved graciously in the incidents that occurred and did not allow the territories and resources of countries to be used against itself." He also referred to Iran's selective approach regarding Qatar and said: "The Qataris officially stated that Iranian attacks were solely against U.S. military targets." These remarks are a sign of Iran's goodwill in pursuing regional diplomacy.

Russia's Proposal and the Need for Confidence-Building in the Region

Regarding Russia's proposal for ensuring the security of the Persian Gulf, Baqaei stated that this issue has been somewhat distorted in the media. He said: "The principle that the region must rely on its own countries for its security, not on actors that place no value or importance on the real security of the region's countries, is something we also endorse."

The spokesperson for Iran's Foreign Ministry also pointed out the importance of initiating a confidence-building process among regional countries to establish security mechanisms and added: "This is necessary for the countries of the region to achieve a reliable mechanism." He emphasized that the Islamic Republic has always sought regional dialogue and welcomes Iraq's initiative to hold a 6+1 meeting.

Iran's Perspective on Global Developments and the Position of Western Countries

In another part of this meeting, Baqaei reacted to Macron's claim that the cause of internal turmoil in France is the war in Iran, saying: "This world is a mountain, and our actions are a call." He also referred to America's confusion in its policies and its consequences on the streets of Europe, stating: "One of the reasons for the dissatisfaction of the people in Europe regarding fuel is this following of America in its aggressive policies."

Finally, the spokesperson for Iran's Foreign Ministry emphasized that Iran is always striving to secure its interests within the framework of regional cooperation and will defend against any aggression to its sovereignty.
