In the recent elections in Israel, supporters of various factions look at the results with hope and concern. This election, the first public election after Hamas's unprecedented attack on October 7, 2023, saw a voter turnout of 77.7%, the highest since 1999.

Competition Status Among the Factions

At 10 PM, initial polls indicated a slight lead for the faction led by Gadi Eisenkot, the former Chief of Staff of the Army and a newcomer politician. Eisenkot is trying to challenge Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of Israel and the long-time leader of the Likud party.

Kalani Sharon, one of Eisenkot's supporters, said: "I feel better" and this statement was accompanied by joy and noise in the Tel Aviv hall. However, gradually, as time passed, the polls changed, and some television networks showed both sides in a state of equality. Meanwhile, the Arab lists, which may play a decisive role in forming the government, are gaining significant votes.

Challenges Ahead for Eisenkot

Eisenkot, who is seeking to form a new government, will face many challenges, as it seems neither side has been able to secure enough votes. Yahli Lefshitz, a 23-year-old student, reported on the challenges ahead for forming a new government, saying: "To form a new government, they must distance themselves from existing rules and norms and create coalitions that have never existed before."

At a conference held by Likud in Jerusalem, a sense of uncertainty prevailed. Eliza Shackerman, a 70-year-old retiree, in response to the initial polls said: "We must wait until tomorrow morning when all the votes are counted. This process will take time. I am sure that by 10 AM tomorrow we will know who the winner is and that Benjamin will be Prime Minister again."

Meanwhile, Eli Peppers, another supporter of Netanyahu, expressed hope, saying: "Usually, during the night, the situation changes in our favor and gets closer to morning."

Given these developments, the political future of Israel is shrouded in uncertainty, and initial polls indicate a tight competition between the two main factions.
