Kuwait has emphasized the importance of adhering to the rulings and advisory opinions of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and called for the full fulfillment of international legal obligations.
Kuwait's Diplomatic Statement at the United Nations
Diplomat Alaf Al-Sabir presented this statement during the General Assembly session of the United Nations while discussing the annual report of the International Court of Justice. He stressed the necessity of the tangible and global implementation of international law and stated: "Continuous adherence to these rights strengthens the credibility of the multilateral system and preserves global justice."
The Vital Role of the International Court of Justice
Al-Sabir added that the International Court of Justice, as the main judicial organ of the United Nations, plays a central role in resolving legal disputes between countries and issuing legal opinions. He emphasized that the activities of this court are crucial for strengthening the rule of international law and peacefully resolving disputes. He also stated that international justice is measured not only by the court's rulings and opinions but also depends on the full adherence to their legal consequences.
Regarding the Palestinian issue, Alaf Al-Sabir referred to the court's findings on Israel's actions in the occupied Palestinian territories. These findings include the court's advisory opinion in July 2024 regarding the illegitimacy of Israel's continued presence in these territories.
He welcomed the court's advisory opinion in October 2025 regarding Israel's obligations as the occupying power towards the United Nations and international bodies operating in the occupied Palestinian territories. Alaf Al-Sabir stated that these obligations include allowing humanitarian aid to flow without obstruction and full cooperation with UN agencies, especially the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).
He reiterated Kuwait's support for the International Court of Justice and its judicial authority, stating that full respect for international law is essential for establishing a sustainable, just, and law-based international order.
