Dr. Rana Al-Fares, head of Kuwait's Anti-Corruption Authority (Nazaha), emphasized Kuwait's full readiness to participate in the second phase of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption review mechanism, reaffirming the country's commitment to strengthening integrity and combating corruption at the international level. In a special session of the conference of the parties to this convention, she described this meeting as a milestone in establishing procedural foundations for the next phase of the review mechanism.
New Foundations of the Review Mechanism
Dr. Al-Fares stated that these foundations include the adoption of a self-assessment checklist, a revised model timetable for reviewing various countries, and a simplified outline for country review reports and executive summaries. She reminded that Kuwait had called in the eleventh session of the conference for the next phase to focus on practical implementation, statistical data, and executive outcomes. Dr. Al-Fares welcomed the inclusion of this approach in the second phase, especially efforts to measure progress in addressing the concerns of previous review reports, assessing its implementation in practice, and identifying technical assistance needs.
