Oman has strengthened its capabilities in drug production by launching three major industrial projects in the Desert, located in the northern Al Batinah Governorate. These projects, which focus on the production of pharmaceutical raw materials and raw materials for antibiotics, aim to improve drug security and expand non-oil exports.

Key Pharmaceutical Projects

The projects include Al-Wajir Pharmaceutical Industries, Drug Manufacturing Company (DMC), and Integrated Penicillin Industries (Pen-G), covering key stages of the drug production chain. These stages include the production of advanced granules, extraction of active ingredients, and base materials used in antibiotics.

Development of Oman's Pharmaceutical Industry

This initiative is considered an important step in the development of Oman's pharmaceutical industry and helps increase local added value and position national products in international markets. Al-Wajir Pharmaceutical Industries, which started operations in 2018, has developed over 18 specialized products and has exported all its productions to markets in Asia, Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East.

Drug Manufacturing Company (DMC) is also establishing advanced industrial infrastructure to supply essential pharmaceutical raw materials to regional producers, thereby supporting domestic production and connecting Oman to the global pharmaceutical supply chain.

Integrated Penicillin Industries (Pen-G) aims to produce key raw materials for antibiotics and supply international markets, especially the United States, which will further strengthen the integration of Oman's pharmaceutical industry.

These three projects are part of Oman's efforts to diversify its economy, attract specialized investments, facilitate technology transfer, and create job opportunities for Omani workforce in technical and specialized fields. Additionally, the development of these projects provides an opportunity to strengthen cooperation with international pharmaceutical companies and expand research, development, and innovation.

This initiative aligns with the goals of Oman Vision 2040 and contributes to enhancing industrial production, increasing the industrial sector's share in GDP, and developing a competitive and innovative industrial landscape, positioning Oman as a regional and international center for drug production.
