The Ministry of Labor in Oman announced a development program worth 20 million Omani Rials for the country's vocational education system for the period 2026 to 2030. This program aims to align with the 11th Five-Year Plan and Oman Vision 2040, including 20 targeted projects to modernize vocational colleges, reform governance, and expand specialized options.

Infrastructure Development and Educational Programs

Dr. Maymoon bint Abdullah Al-Rahhi, Deputy Director General of Vocational Colleges, emphasized that this initiative goes beyond traditional education and addresses the creation of an integrated framework capable of adapting to economic and technological changes. The 2026-2030 roadmap focuses on establishing a deeper connection with private sector employers to identify skill needs and improve on-the-job training.

Development Priorities and Initial Outcomes

Development priorities include updating professional diploma programs, enhancing academic infrastructure, equipping laboratories, and increasing the quality of administrative and educational human resources. In the first half of 2026 alone, vocational colleges held 71 training courses benefiting 1,062 individuals, also approving six new organizational policies and signing five strategic cooperation agreements to improve educational outcomes.

The Ministry of Labor continues to offer professional diploma programs for graduates of general diplomas and career paths for job seekers holding 10th and 11th-grade certificates. By combining theoretical education with practical training pathways, the ministry aims to create a flexible and responsive educational environment to the labor market. These initiatives are designed to enhance the employability of Omani human resources, reduce reliance on foreign labor in technical fields, and support national economic diversification in the long term.
