The State Bank of India (SBI) has taken a significant step in expanding its operations in the United States by opening a new branch of SBIC Bank in Frisco, located north of Dallas, Texas. This branch is the first office of this subsidiary outside the state of California, increasing the total number of the bank's branches in the country from seven to eight.

Expanding Banking Services in the United States

In addition to the eight subsidiary branches, SBI also has three direct branches in New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles, and a representative office in Washington, D.C. The choice of Dallas as the location for this new branch is due to the city's position as a major business hub. This branch will offer services such as retail deposits, commercial loans, international remittances, and specialized services for Indians living abroad.

Strategic Role in the North American Market

Chala Srinivasulu Setty, the President of the State Bank of India, highlighted the importance of this strategic shift in the North American market during the inauguration of this branch, stating: "The opening of the SBIC Bank branch in Texas marks a significant milestone in SBI's international growth journey." He also added that the bank's geographical diversity is directly aligned with the broader economic goals that exist between India and the United States.

The SBI President noted: "Our expansion beyond California demonstrates our commitment to strengthening our presence in strategic markets and serving local communities and the Indian diaspora, as well as supporting the banking needs of individuals and businesses." Setty added: "This move also enhances our role in deepening financial and economic relations between India and the United States."

The State Bank of India also collaborates with 222 financial institutions in 56 countries to assist with cross-border trade settlements and international payment transfers. Digital operations continue through the YONO Global app, which operates in 14 foreign offices and subsidiaries. In the quarter ending September 30, 2026, foreign loans increased by 22.86% compared to the previous year, reaching 831,332 crore rupees, and deposit mobilization in foreign branches also rose by 22.61% to 283,319 crore rupees.
