Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, met with Lebanese officials in Beirut on Friday. This visit comes at a time when Lebanon is grappling with a deep economic crisis and is seeking assistance from Doha and other Gulf countries.
Purpose of the Visit and Collaborations
Sheikh Mohammed arrived in Beirut on Thursday, and the purpose of this visit was to affirm Qatar's support for the Lebanese government's efforts to extend state sovereignty over weapons and Lebanese territories. Another goal of the visit was to explore ways to support Lebanon's decades-long energy crisis. This visit is particularly significant as Lebanon seeks to revive its relations with Gulf countries after years of tension due to the increasing influence of Iran-backed Hezbollah in the country.

Meeting with Lebanese Officials
During this visit, Sheikh Mohammed met with Nawaf Salam, the Prime Minister of Lebanon. According to a statement from the Lebanese government, the two officials discussed options for gas supply to Lebanon and infrastructure development projects for electricity generation. These discussions are particularly important as Lebanon is currently facing serious crises in energy and electricity supply.
This meeting also reflects Qatar's willingness to play a more active role in Lebanon's developments. In recent years, Qatar has made various supportive efforts to help stabilize and develop Lebanon. Previously, during his visit to Beirut in February 2025, Sheikh Mohammed had also emphasized improving relations with Lebanon.
Lebanon's Economic Challenges
Lebanon has been facing a deep economic crisis since 2019, with severe impacts on the daily lives of people and the country's infrastructure. Energy crisis, unemployment, and inflation are among the challenges that Lebanon is grappling with. In this context, support from Gulf countries could be seen as a key factor in improving Lebanon's economic and social situation.
Given the historical and cultural ties between Lebanon and Gulf countries, it is hoped that this visit and collaborations will contribute to improving Lebanon's economic situation and establishing stability in the country.
