Bashar, Oman - The Bashar Social Development Committee held its fourth meeting chaired by Sheikh Ahmed bin Ali bin Saud Al Habsi, the Governor of Bashar. In this meeting, several topics related to strengthening social work, supporting community initiatives, and ways to support the Omani Women's Association were discussed and reviewed. The session also included a visual presentation by Dr. Faisal bin Ali Al Amri, which examined the roles and responsibilities of the relief and shelter sector.

Formation of the Relief and Shelter Sector Working Team

In this context, Ali bin Said Al Saidi, the Governor of Muscat, met with sheikhs, prominent figures, and community leaders. In this meeting, Dr. Faisal bin Ali Al Amri presented a visual presentation about the relief and shelter sector, in which the decision to establish a working team for this sector in the Muscat Governorate in collaboration with governors, social development committees, and charity teams was outlined. This presentation addressed the assigned tasks of the team and the methods of coordination and integration among the relevant institutions. The challenges related to the national program of this sector and issues related to shelters were also highlighted.

Responsibilities of the Relief and Shelter Sector

This presentation emphasized the responsibilities of the relief and shelter sector in providing safe centers for individuals affected by or at risk of incidents, and how to meet relief needs until conditions return to normal was reviewed. These responsibilities also include providing relief assistance to affected families.

Additionally, this sector is responsible for preparing, implementing, and monitoring response plans at the governorate level; identifying and managing shelter centers; creating and updating databases; organizing volunteer and community teams; receiving reports and registering relief and shelter requests; supplying and distributing relief items; training field teams, assessing their performance, and providing periodic reports.

This presentation also addressed the role of social development committees in supporting the efforts of this sector by raising awareness among local communities about mechanisms for coping with incidents and reducing associated risks, responding to the needs of victims, identifying available relief items in the states, and coordinating with civil society organizations to supply and deliver them to those in need.

These roles include organizing the efforts of volunteers, associations, and volunteer teams, coordinating their participation in awareness-raising activities and events, documenting their efforts, and providing periodic reports to the relief and shelter sector and the Muscat Governor's office. This strengthens coordination and integration among relevant institutions and enhances preparedness and response to incidents.
