Sergey Lavrov, the Russian Foreign Minister, will begin his trip to Iran and Bahrain, aimed at addressing current international and regional issues. Maria Zakharova, the spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, announced at a press conference that this meeting will focus specifically on the situation surrounding Iran and the actions that the Russian side is taking to reduce tensions.

Focus on Reducing Tensions

Zakharova emphasized that the existing tensions in the Middle East have been created due to the actions of the United States and Israel. In this context, Lavrov and Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, will pay special attention in their upcoming negotiations to the implementation of agreements reached following recent contacts between the two countries and practical steps to strengthen the bilateral partnership in line with the comprehensive strategic treaty between Tehran and Moscow.

Participation in Strategic Dialogue with Gulf Arab States

The Russian Foreign Minister is also set to participate in the ninth meeting of foreign ministers within the framework of the strategic dialogue between Russia and the Gulf Cooperation Council, which will be held on Sunday, October 18, 2026, in Manama. This meeting will address a wide range of international and regional issues, including the situation in the Gulf region.

Zakharova stated that the main focus of this meeting will be to hold a general session in which the parties will exchange views on important issues. In addition, the parties will examine the prospects for strengthening mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation between Russia and the member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council, including in the fields of trade, economy, culture, and humanitarian efforts.

She also noted that Lavrov usually holds bilateral meetings on the sidelines of multilateral events, and this trip will not be an exception. Therefore, multiple meetings in this regard have been planned.
