Sheikh Zain Al-Sabah, Kuwait's ambassador to the United States, on Wednesday referred to the memorial for Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm, which is set to be unveiled on Saturday in Washington, as a symbol of the resilience and sacrifice of the people of Kuwait and emphasized the importance of the values of friendship, unity, and peace for future generations.

A Treasure of Memories

In an article published in a prestigious magazine prior to the unveiling, Sheikh Zain noted that this memorial pays tribute to the efforts and sacrifices of the American and coalition forces that participated in the 1991 war to liberate Kuwait. He described this event as an important chapter in the shared history of Kuwait and the United States and expressed hope that future generations would benefit from these memories.

Enduring Friendship and Cooperation

Sheikh Zain Al-Sabah noted that this memorial represents the resilience and courage of those who fulfilled their duty and the friendships that time cannot erase. He also reminded that this memorial symbolizes what can be achieved when the principles of international law and justice prevail.

Sheikh Zain emphasized that the memories related to this period will remain alive for those who lived through the occupation and liberation of Kuwait. He recalled the leadership of the United States in forming an exceptional global coalition to defend Kuwait's sovereignty and international rights and referred to Kuwait's efforts to garner international support in various capitals.

He mentioned the relationships formed through shared sacrifices, stating that these relationships have acted as the foundation for deeper friendship over the past 35 years. Current relations have gone beyond the battlefield and include diplomacy, security, defense, education, humanitarian work, trade, and investment.

Sheikh Zain concluded that 35 years later, standing in front of this memorial brings to mind the image of a 15-year-old girl at that time who never imagined she would one day serve as Kuwait's ambassador in Washington.
