The 2026 Tax Conference was held on Tuesday in Muscat and focused on new developments and rapid changes in tax systems at both local and international levels. This event was attended by a wide range of international experts, representatives from government agencies, the financial and tax sectors, and legal and accounting professionals.

Launch of the Electronic Tax System

At this conference, the electronic tax system 'Rafid' and the first tax invoice aimed at developing the tax system in the Sultanate of Oman were introduced. The goal of these initiatives is to increase tax compliance, enhance transparency in business transactions, and improve the efficiency of tax procedures. This system will also support digital transformation and strengthen an effective and reliable business environment.

The Importance of Dialogue and Experience Exchange

Nasser bin Khamis Al-Jashmi, the head of the Tax Authority, stated that this conference is held at a time when the tax environment at both local and international levels is witnessing rapid changes. He emphasized the importance of continuing dialogue, exchanging experiences, and strengthening communications among various parties.

Al-Jashmi also pointed out that the conference is particularly significant due to the critical discussions it encompasses. These discussions include global developments regarding supplementary taxes on multinational companies (Pillar Two), personal income tax, and the electronic invoicing project.

He stressed that the success of any tax system depends not only on laws and procedures but also requires awareness, transparency, continuous communication, fairness, and mutual trust between the tax authority and taxpayers.

This conference serves as a platform to strengthen participation and exchange views on ways to develop a more transparent and efficient tax environment that benefits the national economy and supports the business environment in the Sultanate of Oman.

A range of topics was addressed at this conference, including the latest developments in implementing supplementary taxes on multinational companies and challenges related to international taxes.

The discussions also touched on digital transformation, innovative technologies, and the use of emerging technologies and artificial intelligence to facilitate tax procedures and support tax compliance.

Another topic of focus at this conference was strengthening participation and awareness, especially in creating a close and effective relationship between the tax authority and representatives of the business sectors and tax representatives to ensure a proper understanding of tax requirements.
