During her speech at the 70th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency held in Vienna, the capital of Austria, the Sultanate of Oman emphasized its commitment to ongoing cooperation with the agency and member states to achieve strategic goals. Faiza bint Saif Al-Siyabiah, Oman's permanent representative to the agency, highlighted the importance of using nuclear technology for peace and sustainable development.
Advancing Peaceful Objectives
At this conference, Oman referred to its active cooperation in various initiatives aimed at facilitating the peaceful use of nuclear energy. The country particularly emphasized its participation in projects related to food security, a global network of water analysis laboratories using isotopes, and a nuclear initiative for the preservation of historical artifacts. Oman also announced its request to participate in upcoming training courses on capacity building and monitoring nuclear materials.

Training and Development Programs
The Sultanate of Oman announced its intention to host regional training courses in Muscat to strengthen cooperation. These courses will include programs on the production of radioactive isotopes and genetic information related to disease vectors. These actions aim to develop capacities and train technical staff from Arab countries and demonstrate Oman's determination to enhance scientific and technological standards in the region.
Additionally, Oman intends to transform the Sultan Qaboos Center into a reference center in the field of radiation therapy and nuclear medicine. This center is currently working to maintain its accreditation from the Joint Commission International for the accreditation of health institutions. A team of agency experts has reviewed the quality of services at this center and praised its growing activities.
Oman also reiterated its firm stance regarding the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons and urged all member states to adhere to their commitments. The country particularly referenced the 1995 decisions regarding the Middle East and expressed satisfaction with Syria's transparency in implementing agreements.
As the rotating presidency of the United Nations conference for the establishment of a nuclear-weapon-free zone and weapons of mass destruction, the Sultanate of Oman emphasized the continuation of cooperation based on dialogue and agreement and seeks to strengthen the process of development and prosperity for the nations of the region and the world.
