The United States government under Donald Trump on Saturday advised Ukraine to choose new leadership to reach an agreement to end the dispute with Russia. These comments followed a recent diesel fuel supply agreement between the U.S. and Russia, and Trump warned Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine, not to attack Russian oil facilities.

Trump's Warning to Zelensky

Trump stated at a press conference at the White House that he specifically warned Zelensky not to attack Russian oil facilities, especially those producing diesel fuel. He emphasized that such attacks could disrupt fuel supply for global markets and affect American farmers and ranchers. He said, "We told Zelensky he can do whatever he wants with Russia, but do not attack the oil facilities because this is a global problem. And what does he do? He attacks the diesel facilities. He needs to stop as soon as possible."

Need for Leadership Change in Ukraine

Trump also criticized Zelensky's approach in negotiations with Russia, suggesting that Ukraine needs new leadership to reach an agreement. He added, "I suggest they elect a new leader who can reach an agreement because he could have made many deals but for some reason never does." Trump continued, "It seems the time has come for Ukraine to have a new president."

These remarks came as Trump announced on his social media that Russia would supply over 300,000 tons of diesel fuel to American and global markets, with additional shipments on the way in the coming months.

The U.S. President stated in his post that this agreement was reached after a "very successful discussion" with Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia. He also referenced the connection between Russia's proposed energy supply and falling fuel prices, emphasizing the importance of maintaining fuel supply for American consumers and the global market.

Trump noted, "With our complete control over the Strait of Hormuz and this major announcement regarding Russian energy, diesel prices for Americans and globally will drop rapidly and unprecedentedly!" He described reducing costs for Americans, especially farmers, ranchers, and truckers, as his "top priority."

These comments indirectly showcased Trump's concerns about Ukraine's attacks on Russian energy infrastructure. He argued that attacks on oil facilities could have consequences beyond the battlefield and affect fuel access and prices. Additionally, these remarks bring forth new public criticism of Zelensky, as Trump has called for peace negotiations with Russia.
