A federal judge in the United States on Tuesday struck down President Donald Trump's effort to bar journalists from CNN, MS NOW, and Politico from entering the White House. The judge stated that the government's decision to revoke the journalists' credentials likely violated their legal rights.

Judge's Temporary Ruling

U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly, who was appointed by Trump himself, issued a temporary ruling allowing journalists from these three news organizations to access the White House grounds while pursuing their lawsuit against the government.

In a 26-page ruling, Kelly believed that the revocation of the journalists' credentials likely violated their rights under the First and Fifth Amendments of the U.S. Constitution. This decision reinforced the judge's previous arguments indicating that the government's action was likely retaliatory and violated legal protections for the press.

Reasons for Revocation of Credentials

Kelly explained in his assessment of the President's decision that Trump's objections to the reports from these media outlets appeared to be a motivation for the restrictions. He stated, "President Trump likely sought to bar the plaintiffs from the White House because he believes their reports are generally inaccurate and biased against him."

The judge also rejected the Justice Department's argument that claimed national security concerns had at least partially influenced the decision, stating that there was no evidence in the case indicating that Trump had initially decided to revoke the journalists' credentials based on national security concerns.

The Trump administration faced a legal challenge from CNN, MS NOW, and Politico after announcing the restrictions against journalists. These organizations argued that the decision was a retaliatory act due to their coverage of the President and therefore violated the rights to free speech and press under the First Amendment of the Constitution.

This temporary ruling comes as legal proceedings continue, allowing journalists from CNN, MS NOW, and Politico to access the White House.
