Yemen's Houthis (Ansar Allah) on Wednesday, October 21, strongly rejected the Saudi coalition's claim of an attack on the holy city of Medina, emphasizing that they have not conducted any operations towards Saudi Arabia. These statements followed announcements from the Saudi coalition claiming to have intercepted drones in the skies over Medina and the eastern region of Saudi Arabia.

Rising Tensions in the Region

Yahya Sari, the military spokesman for the Houthis, stressed that this group has not taken any military action against Saudi Arabia and called all claims baseless. This comes as tensions between the Saudi-led coalition and the Houthis have significantly escalated in recent weeks. The clashes between the Saudi coalition, which supports the legitimate Yemeni government, and the Houthis, who control Yemen's capital, Sana'a, have become another front in the U.S. and Israel's war against Iran.

Recent Houthi Attacks and Humanitarian Consequences

The Houthis recently attacked Riyadh International Airport and the major Saudi oil company Aramco, disrupting flights and oil exports. A Houthi missile attack on a training camp for Yemeni government security forces in Shabwa province on Tuesday resulted in the deaths of 73 people. This new wave of violence marks the most severe clashes between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis since the major halt of border attacks under UN supervision in 2022.

Yemen, experiencing one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world, has been embroiled in civil war since 2014. In that year, the Houthis ousted the government from Yemen's capital, leading to military intervention by Saudi Arabia.

The turmoil in Yemen and the ongoing conflicts in the country have severely impacted the humanitarian situation in the region, putting thousands in critical conditions. Given the rising tensions, the need for a political resolution to this crisis is increasingly felt to reduce the violence and address the humanitarian situation of the Yemeni people.
