Ahmed Al-Sha'ira, the President of Syria, emphasized during the UN meeting in New York that the Golan Heights will always remain part of Syrian territory. These statements came in response to the recent decision by the Colombian government to recognize Israeli sovereignty over this strategic region.

Response to Colombia's Decision

The new right-wing Colombian government, which came to power last August, recognized Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights. The Golan Heights, which were occupied by Israel in 1967, has remained under Israeli control since then. Previously, the United States was the only country to recognize the annexation of this area by Israel in 1981.

The President of Syria stated at this meeting: "Any actions that violate our sovereignty and are unacceptable under international law will be halted. The Golan Heights will remain Syrian territory." These statements reflect the firm determination of the Syrian government to defend its national sovereignty.

Continued Israeli Attacks on Syria

Ahmed Al-Sha'ira also criticized the repeated Israeli attacks on Syria during his second address at the conference, saying: "Iran is currently conducting frequent airstrikes against Syria. In recent years, we have witnessed 500 airstrikes, over 1,200 infiltrations, and 300 detentions. This situation contrasts with positive global changes. It reminds us of a period we thought had ended."

These remarks clearly indicate Syria's concerns about ongoing tensions and security threats in the region. The President of Syria emphasized the necessity of respecting national sovereignty and international laws and called for the international community's attention to these issues.
