The Council of Ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council, chaired by Abdullatif Al-Zayani, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bahrain, addressed important regional and global issues during its 168th meeting in Manama, the capital of Bahrain. In this meeting, the foreign ministers of member countries and Jasem Al-Budaiwi, the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, were present.

Classification of Houthis as a Terrorist Organization

In the final statement of this meeting, the necessity of classifying the Houthis as a terrorist organization was emphasized. The Gulf Cooperation Council requested that the international community's approach towards terrorist groups that threaten security, peace, and prosperity should also extend to the Houthis. This decision was made particularly in light of the serious threats the Houthis have posed to neighboring countries and even maritime security in the region in recent years.

Halting Support for Houthis and Regional Diplomacy

Furthermore, the Gulf Cooperation Council called for the cessation of any support that enables the Houthis to acquire missiles and drones. This body also emphasized the necessity of returning to dialogue and diplomacy to resolve the crisis between the United States and Iran. This request seems aimed at reducing tensions and establishing stability in the region.

The final statement also highlighted the security and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, and member countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council were invited to participate in negotiations related to the security and interests of these countries. This point is particularly significant given the increase in missile and drone attacks on member countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council and Jordan, whether directly or through Iranian-backed armed groups.

In this statement, the Gulf Cooperation Council expressed solidarity with Saudi Arabia, stating that any attack on one of the member countries would be considered an attack on all member countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council. This stance reflects the solidarity and unity of member countries against common threats.

Overall, the recent meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council is considered an important step towards strengthening regional security and combating terrorist threats. This body has shown through its firm positions that it seeks to create stability and lasting security in the Gulf and its surroundings.
