Muscat Municipality, representing the General Directorate of Projects and Afforestation, is executing a project for the development and beautification of the Souq Al Mal neighborhood (commercial area) in Ruwi located in the Wilayat of Muscat. The goal of this project is to revitalize the area economically and socially, improve urban landscapes, and enhance commercial and tourism attractions, which in turn helps elevate the quality of life for residents and visitors.

Project Details

Engineer Basma Salim Al-Yousufi, project engineer at Muscat Municipality, announced that the progress of this project has reached 40 percent. This project is being carried out over an area of more than 290,000 square meters and includes integrated afforestation and beautification works. Among these activities are the planting of over 260 trees and the installation and replacement of over 290 street lighting units. Additionally, the development of sidewalks and paving works are also included in this project.

Sports and Recreational Infrastructure

This project includes the construction of a two-kilometer walkway, a dedicated running and cycling path, and a pedestrian bridge that connects both sides of the wadi. Additionally, seating areas and public service facilities including outdoor retail kiosks and restrooms, along with a playground for children, have been planned. These elements contribute to creating an integrated urban environment that supports sports and recreational activities.

The project is part of Muscat Municipality's efforts to develop urban areas, improve infrastructure and public facilities, and transform commercial areas into vibrant destinations that combine economic activity with aesthetic and recreational elements. This goal aligns with the Oman Vision 2040 objectives, which emphasize improving the quality of life and enhancing urban sustainability.
