Qatar's Role as an International Mediator
In her acceptance speech, Sheikha Alia referred to Qatar's expanding role as an international mediator under the Emir's leadership and discussed the country's diplomatic activities in various regions including Gaza, Afghanistan, Darfur, Chad, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. She explained that Qatar's mediation approach is based on two principles: achieving sustainable peace through dialogue and ensuring that peace agreements are accompanied by reconstruction and development.
Sheikha Alia also emphasized the importance of investing in education and providing opportunities for youth, deeming these actions essential to prevent the resurgence of conflict and build sustainable stability in war-affected countries.
Furthermore, she addressed regional tensions, condemning Iran's attacks on Qatar and other Gulf countries, as well as navigation restrictions in the Strait of Hormuz. However, she reaffirmed Qatar's support for Pakistan's mediation efforts between the United States and Iran to reduce tensions and seek a diplomatic solution.
Sheikha Alia also stressed the importance of maintaining dialogue during conflicts and highlighted Qatar's close cooperation with the United States in security, energy, education, and investment. On behalf of the Emir of Qatar, she thanked the organization for this honor and regarded the award as a sign of the Emir's efforts in promoting peace, diplomacy, and dialogue.
