After arriving in Doha, the French President was officially welcomed by the Emir of Qatar at the Lusail Palace. The reception ceremony began with the playing of the national anthems of Qatar and France, after which Macron inspected the honor guard.
Bilateral Talks and Regional Issues
During this meeting, the leaders of the two countries are expected to discuss cooperation in several areas, particularly energy security, maritime navigation, and opportunities to expand collaboration in defense, investment, and advanced technologies. This visit comes at a time when tensions and instabilities around the Strait of Hormuz have raised significant concerns regarding energy security and resource supply.
Macron has had discussions with the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, and the President of the UAE, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, during the early stages of this tour. The talks with Gulf leaders have focused on regional developments, energy security, and maritime navigation.
Sheikh Ali bin Jassim Al Thani, the Qatari Ambassador to France, described this visit as an important phase in the strategic relations between the two countries and stated that both countries are seeking to expand cooperation in investment, energy, defense, education, health, and technology. Issues related to maritime security and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz are also among the shared concerns of these two countries.
This visit follows a series of high-level exchanges, including the official visit of the Emir of Qatar to France in February 2024. The two countries continue to develop cooperation in political, economic, security, and cultural fields.
More than 665 French companies operate in Qatar, and the volume of bilateral trade in goods between the two countries reached approximately 6.39 billion Qatari riyals in 2025. Qatar has also committed to investing 10 billion euros in key sectors of the French economy, including energy transition, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, health, and hospitality.
The two countries are also looking to expand trade relations in technology, financial services, and innovation.
