The Sultanate of Oman, with the aim of enhancing national preparedness in facing hazardous incidents, has organized an educational and specialized program in the field of response to incidents caused by chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive materials. This program, which is being implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and the Civil Defense and Ambulance Organization, will continue from September 20 to October 20.

Details of the Educational Program

This educational program is designed to strengthen the capabilities of Oman's health system, with the participation of over 40 doctors, consultants, and healthcare staff from various specialties and related entities. Additionally, a special training program for trainers (TOT) has been planned, which will prepare about 20 participants to become national trainers to share their knowledge and experiences in this field.

Dr. Rashid bin Mohammed Al-Alawi, Director General of Khoula Hospital, emphasized that the implementation of this educational program is aimed at strengthening the preparedness of the health system and increasing the efficiency of national staff in facing major incidents and hazardous materials. He added that effective response to such incidents requires a high level of preparedness, training, coordination, and cooperation among various entities.

Educational Opportunities and International Cooperation

This program is considered an important opportunity to benefit from international experiences and transfer best practices to the national staff. Dr. Al-Alawi also emphasized the importance of building sustainable capacities through training and empowering the national staff, stating: "Investing in education and empowerment is one of the main pillars of strengthening the resilience and sustainability of the health system."

Dr. Thuraya bint Mohammed Al-Sulaimi, Head of the Emergency and Crisis Management Committee at Khoula Hospital, highlighted the importance of this program in enhancing the health sector's preparedness to face major incidents and emergency scenarios. She stated that this program focuses on strengthening cooperation and coordination among teams and various specialties and clearly defines roles and responsibilities during incident response.

In this context, the program will include theoretical sessions and practical exercises for risk assessment, management of contamination situations, medical evacuation, and decontamination measures. Additionally, international experts from the International Committee of the Red Cross will participate in this program to share international experiences and best practices in CBRNE incident response.

On the sidelines of the opening ceremony, an agreement was signed between Khoula Hospital and the International Committee of the Red Cross to strengthen national capacities in preparedness and response to chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear incidents and to enhance the readiness of health staff to deal with such incidents using best practices.
